DARQ “BACK TO RISK IT ALL”

The last thing you expect to see when a promoter yells, “Make some noise for our next performer, DARQ!” is a white kid from the Bronx. But once the set is over, all misconceptions regarding skin color are thrown out of the window. The only thing that matters is the next act saying to themselves, “How the hell do I follow THAT?”

Darq’s path is one that is all too similar yet unique at the same time. Enduring a rough upbringing, which included homeless shelters and juvenile detention centers, Darq is no stranger to hardships and adversity. Penning his first rhyme at 13, yet shunned by the culture that he longed to be a part of, Darq formed a rock hard will that would guide him for years to come. After parting ways with two independent situations, Darq has found a new home with Son Of Liberty Music Group. And with a new situation, comes new energy.

Regaining full creative control over his music, Darq is currently working on “Back To Risk It” the follow up to the Coast 2 Coast/iStandard sponsored street album, “Risking it All Willingly” which received 4 ½ stars in Coast 2 Coast Magazine issue 11 and Nominated for a JUSTO MIXTAPE AWARD for “Street Album Of The Year.” In 2009 Darq was also the Winner of the “Most Promising Male Artist Of The Year” at the UMA’s (Underground Music Awards). Darq is also working on a NNY (Nu New York) project with fellow NNY members Elus, Bugz, D Dave, and Guy Fisher. And in the quest to expand his artistic range, Darq has been bitten by the acting bug and has stepped in front of the camera for bigger roles as showcased in his own “Fly Away” and “R.A.W.” videos, as well as the forthcoming Nu New York movie.

With a new team in place, and new projects on deck, Darq is setting his eyes on an old goal: Domination. Having performed in, won or been a featured act in nearly every underground showcase in NYC, Darq is continuously pushing himself to combat the naysayers. Stopping is not a word in his vocabulary, and defeat is not an option. Whether the doors open, or the locks get picked….get ready, because the Darqness is spreading.

Mover Certified Interview with @whoiskalibur

1. Introduce yourself to our readers
The name is KALIBUR. They call me the “One Man Army” because I’m one of the FEW Artist who Covers ALL aspects of “Music Creation.” I Write, Sing, Produce (Make Beats), Engineer, Mix, Master and Perform my OWN Music! You could lock me in a Studio ALONE… and I will Leave with a FINISHED Project.

2. Where do you currently reside?
The DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area is my Home. I’m currently in Pg County, Maryland

3. How long have been an artist?
About 14 years now…

4. Who influenced you and why?
This might sound corny…. but My Mama influenced me to Pursue My Goals as a Musician. When She was a Teenager she used to be a Singer. Some People said She was good enough to be the next Diana Ross. But, after giving Birth to my Oldest Brother, Her family encouraged her to Quit this “Singing Fantasy” and Get a REAL JOB. So she gave up on her dreams to raise us. I used to wake up every morning hearing her Sing and she sounded just as Good as the Singers on the Radio. I grew up watching her dissapointment in NOT being able to fullfil that DREAM… She tried to hide it from us, but I could STILL see it. She is where I got my natural Music Talent from, and I promised Myself that She would Recognize that Dream through ME.

5. Talk about winning Get Your Buzz Up and the overall experience?
It was a Great Experience! I’m Thankful to be Recognized On a Platform like NEW YORK CITY (The Birthplace of Hip-Hop) and be Appreciated for My Hard Work. The Audience, especially the LADIES, were extremely supportive. It amazed me to see Girls who never Heard My Music before Dance and Drop it Low to my Single “ARCH DAT BACK.”

6. How are you using the exposure to benefit your movement?
This exposure is helping me propel my career further. I’ve networked with Djs, Radio Execs… I even got the opportunity to Chop It up with Slip N Slide Records VP, Julian Boothe. Not to mention, the countless spins I’m getting by Djs all over the world who are supporting my “ARCH DAT BACK” Record in their Clubs! …We’re taking Lemons and Making Lemonade over here!
7. Describe your stage show to those who are new to your name?
Of course the name is Kalibur… in the English dictionary it means, “A degree of mental capacity or moral quality and a degree of excellence, skill or importance.” ..I pride myself on the High Quality, Skill, Creativity and Character I possess that is Not easily obtained by Most Individuals. When I’m on the Stage, I Leave my Audience with SOMETHING to Remember.

8. Whats up next?
Shooting New Videos, Just released the Official Music Video for my single “ARCH DAT BACK” on Youtube! We’re getting A lot of Support from the LADIES on that Video! We JUST shot another Music Video in Miami for my Record called “LOVE to HATE” which will be Released Soon! …My current MixtapeAlbum is available NOW for Free Download on http://www.datpiff.com its called “FYF (F**k Yo Feelings) 2.0 the MixtapeAlbum” …In a few months I will be going BACK in the Studio to work on my next CD which is an ALL R&B MixtapeAlbum called “Eargasm” …a lot of people didnt know that was ME Singing on my Album. I’m about to show the World why they call me the “One Man Army”

9. Where can we find you online?
Follow @WhoIsKALIBUR on Twitter and ADD me On Facebook http://www.facebook.com/kaliburismusic

10. Any last words?
My Advice to Any young Artist reading this who’s coming Up, is to LEARN the GAME and NEVER Give Up. You gotta Learn from the ones before you. You can’t be a Great LEADER until you’ve Followed One… Secondly, Never let anyone tell you what you CAN’T do… usually the ones CLOSEST to you are the Ones who try to Hold you BACK. If this is what you were Meant to Do… DO IT and tell your Haters FYF (F**k Yo Feelings)
